I vividly remember the moment I fell in love with fashion illustration. I was 10 years old at summer camp and my counselor was home from fashion school. She was drawing these little fashion figures on construction paper and I was mesmerized. I asked her if she could show me how and she kindly walked me through the steps. She said “you know, you’re pretty good at this. Maybe you will go to fashion school too!” And that was the moment I decided that I would pursue a career in the fashion industry.

I went to a small private college where I earned my BFA in Fashion Design. The 5 years following graduation have been quite busy. I moved to NYC for a job in fashion buying for one of the largest brands in the world. I got married to my college sweetheart and had our beautiful son. I have a lot going on ALL THE TIME and yet I couldn’t scratch that creative itch.

Coco Michele Illustrations gives me a much needed platform to express myself. This platform allows me to create illustrations that represent me in an industry that often excluded me. My objective is to merge all of the complicated pieces of the black woman into a beautifully crafted fashion illustration.
